Dr. Tim Mullen holds degrees in computer science and computational and cognitive neuroscience from UC Berkeley (B.A.s) and the UC San Diego Dept. of Cognitive Science (M.S. and Ph.D) and Institute for Neural Computation. At Xerox PARC he developed patented applications of wearable brain-computer interface (BCI) technology. Over the last fifteen years he has advanced widely used methods and software for neural signal analysis and state decoding. Prior academic awards included the UCSD Chancellor’s Dissertation Medal, IEEE best paper awards, Glushko, San Diego, and Swartz Fellowships, and UC Berkeley highest honors. His scientific publications focus on the use of machine learning and adaptive system identification techniques applied to non-invasive and intracranial electrophysiological data (e.g. EEG, ECoG), to detect mental states and neuronal pathologies. He is a frequent speaker at international conferences and workshops, and his work has been highlighted by various media outlets including TED, BBC World, Discovery Science, and Wired, and before the US Congress. He is also a musician and artist whose work in audiovisual new media, exploring real-time interactions between the brain and body and external environments, has been presented nationally and internationally. He is founding director of the annual Mozart & the Mind festival with Mainly Mozart, a series of concerts, presentations, and interactive media and neurotechnology exhibitions exploring the impact of music on our brains, health, and lives.

Christian Kothe (CTO) is a widely recognized expert in brain-computer interface (BCI) technology with over a decade of experience in neurotechnology. He obtained the M.S. in Computer Science from the Berlin Institute of Technology. There he was a founding member of the PhyPA (Physiological Parameters for Adaptation) group and supervised several students masters theses. He then spent several years as a research scientist at the Swartz Center for Computational Neuroscience, of the Institute for Neural Computation, UC San Diego. There he developed advanced methods and software for machine learning and biosignal processing using EEG and other modalities. He is a key contributor to the CAN-CTA, a major federal initiative to advance the state of the art in real-world BCI technology. He is the creator of the popular open-source BCILAB toolbox, currently the most comprehensive toolbox for BCI research, and the Lab Streaming Layer for multimodal sensor data acquisition and streaming. His patented algorithms for artifact removal have been obtained (since 2013) by over 250 researchers and businesses. He has authored numerous papers on BCI and EEG analytics, with over 780 citations since 2008. In 2011, he pioneered and defined the concept of “Passive BCI” with T.O. Zander. Their seminal paper has since been cited over 180 times and the term is now the subject of dedicated conferences. Mr. Kothe is also a frequent invited speaker at EEG and BCI workshops, and is the creator a popular online course on the topic. Mr. Kothe joined Intheon as Chief Technology Officer in 2015.

Allen has a Clinical Neurology and research background and a history of success with startup companies. In 1993, he co-founded INTERVU, a video streaming company that went public and was acquired by Akamai Technologies and in 2000, he co-founded Kintera, a cloud computing provider of social networking for online fundraising that went public and was acquired by Blackbaud. Dr. Gruber co-founded Brain Corporation, a 4 year old company funded by Qualcomm Ventures, which is developing a Computational Neuroscience based operating system platform for robotics. Dr. Gruber was a Clinical Professor in the UCSD School of Medicine and a Senior Fellow at the SCCN. Dr. Gruber graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and completed a Clinical Neurology Residency at Washington University in St Louis.
